Mache Agape: Chapter 5

The daylight came in through the thin curtains of the room, demanding her to open her eyes, but she protested with grunts, she heard the win laugh in response. Wait, the wind? Her eyes flashed opened and there she saw them, Sonic and Tails, both looking at her, laughing. She couldn't help but blush, maybe she had said or done something embarrassing as she was sleeping?
"W-What are you guys laughing about?" Amy demanded an answer.
"That you called us mom" Sonic laughed louder, she blushed even more.
"Sorry Amy, it was just so funny" Tails tried to hold back his laughter.
Amy pouted, of course unhappy, but then she realized her hand was still within Sonic's grasp, sending her heart into overdrive.
"Alright Sonic, you're better now but I'm not letting you out for a while, not until I have any new leads on Eggman. As things are is too risky if you confront him like last time." As Tails talked, Amy tried to gently get Sonic's hand off of hers. The grip only tightened. "I'm getting my security system installed even in Holoska and Mazuri. It's hard to cover up all the continent but it's not impossible."
"Just do your thing Tails, I promise to behave." Sonic chuckled a little.
"You better, you're still not in tip top shape, you were worse that that first time you fought Dark Oak. You even passed out that time remember?" Tails raised an eyebrow.
"I know Tails I know. Chill out buddy, you're like my dad or something."
"I- I am not!" He turned crimson red.
"It must be that your paternal instincts are waking up since you're taking so much care of Galaxia." Sonic smirked.
"... I bet you two have stuff to talk about, so I'll get going." With a serious face Tails turned and walked away, slamming the door behind him.
"Haha guess he got embarrassed." Sonic turned to Amy, who had a yet even more embarrassed expression. She looked at him and then at her hand. "Ah sorry, sorry, but you would have probably ran away if I let go of you." He slowly let go of her hand and she pulled it to herself.
"I wouldn't have had ran away. I'm not like you." She said with spite.
"I have my reasons for running away, and lately you to have been running away haven't you?"
"Because I don't want you to get hurt!"
"That's the same reason why I run away..." And both were silent for a few moment. Amy had a hard time processing what he had just said, even believing it. "Amy, why are YOU running away? Explain it properly." Sonic seemed so serious, almost as if he was someone else.
"Sonic... I... I can't..."
"Tell me"
"No... I can't... I..."
"Tell me!"
"I don't want you to die! I don't want you to protect me! I don't want you to protect anyone! I don't want you to fight!" She cried. "But I know I can't stop you. If staying away from you is the only way I can protect what I love then I will, Sonic." Her watery eyes were wide and sad. He was still unable to understand it all, but he at least had something now.
"You are right, there is no way you would stop me from fighting Eggman. But just keep on cheering me alright? I will be fine, it's always like this Amy. You know the reason why I always manage to defeat him?"
Amy motioned her head no as she sobbed.
"Because I always have you and my friends helping me. All of you are the reason why I fight. Because I want to see you all smile, because I want to see you all live happy, even if I happen to-"
"Don't say that! Don't dare to!" Amy stood up un anger. "Don't you dare say 'even if I die', because if you died than no one would be happy any more. Because if you died I could never live happily! Unlike Tails I wouldn't be able to move on! I'm not as strong! So don't you dare say it!" At this point she was holding him, more like holding on to him. "No matter what. Please just promise me you will make it back."
"Hey, Amy..."
"Just promise me!"
"Haha I promise, I promise okay? It's not like I would let myself be killed so easily." He said as he gently pushed her away.
"Thanks" Amy sniffed and wiped away her tears. "I'm sorry..."
"You're just worried, I understand. Thanks for being such a good friend." Yes, a friend, that's all she was to him, that's what she had always been.
"I'll go to stay with Vanilla and Cream, give them a hand with the Chaotix. I'll call from time to time to see how things are." Amy stood as proudly as she could.
"Alright then."
Amy then looked at him, wondering how he could always smile so easily, so honestly, she wished that smile could be just for her. Swiftly, she leaned towards him and kissed his cheek.
"You promised." She whispered sweetly and without allowing him to see her face she turned away and left.
As soon as the door closed Sonic covered his face, looking up as he heard the door open. "Don't say a word, Tails."
"I won't I won't." The fox said as he went inside. "She'll be alright."
"Yeah, she will."

That same day in the afternoon Amy packed all of her belongings and said her good-byes to Tails and Sonic, it would probably be some time before she would see them again.
"Tails, keep Sonic out of trouble please." She said with that smile she had been showing lately, that mature, serious smile.
"I'll do my best" Tails laughed as the kid that he was. Both Amy and Sonic exchanged looks and then nodded, leaving Tails quite confused.
"I'll be going then."
"Take care, Amy." Tails smiled.
"You too." And with one last smile, Amy left.

She will be alright…
